Type locality: South Africa (by inference).  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesHolotype: BMNH 1946.1.2.55 (formerly BMNH 1871.4.21.1) (collector A. Smith) fide Wallach et al. (2014)
Holotype: SMF 46343, male; paratypes: SMF, males and females[polystictus] 
Diagnosis 
CommentDistribution: Erroneously reported from Benin by CHABANAUD 1916 and VILLIERS 1951; probably based on a misidentification (ULLENBRUCH et al. 2010).

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018).

Venomous, but usually not dangerous to humans.
