Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: BERTHOLD'S rarely used name endangered STEINDACHNER'S name as a junior synonym. THOMAS (1977) who had also borrowed the type from Göttingen and had confirmed BOULENGER'S conclusion, published an application to the Commission to suppress molochina BERTHOLD. This application was granted by the Commission in its Opinion 1211 (ICZN 1982). Moreover he stated that the emendation to "molorchina" by JAN (1863) which he made when referring BERTHOLD'S species to the genus Philodryas, was unjustified.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Johann Natterer (1787-1843), the collector of the type. See Bastos & Sa 2011 for further biographical details.
