DistributionVenezuela (Turimiquire massiff, elevation 0-1750 m), Suriname (Nieuw Nickerie and Paramaribo), Guyana (Demerara [Georgetown]), Brazil

Type locality: Cerro La Laguna, Turimiquire massif, Fre- ites, Anzoátegui, Venezuela.

TypesHolotype: EBRG 3957, a 469 mm male 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A northern dwarfed relative of Thamnodynastes strigatus, from which it differs chiefly in its smaller size, lesser development of para-cloacal tubercles in males, a higher modal maxillary tooth count, and in possessing enlarged basal hooks on the hemipenis. 
CommentSympatric with T. pallidus. 
EtymologyNamed after Ramón Rivero, who for more than 20 years has enriched and maintained the reptile collection of the Rancho Grande Biological Station, making and allowing great contributions to the knowledge of the Venezuelan herpetofauna.
