TypesType: BMNH 1946.1.6.16 (and possibly additional specimens). 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: "Based on the original description, Coluber melanurus var. timoriensis BETHENCOURT FERREIRA 1897 can be assigned to Coelognathus subradiatus and not C. flavolineatus. Unfortunately the specimens used by Bethencourt Ferreira were destroyed in the 1978 fire at the Museu Bocage in Lisbon, so this assessment relies on the comparison of new material from Timor-Leste with Bethencourt Ferreira's description” (H. Kaiser, pers. comm.)

Subspecies: Coelognathus subradiatus enganensis (VINCIGUERRA 1892) has been elevated to full species status.
